Toby Linero — the dog who loves without boundaries
Toby Linero · with Nazar
Arrival
Toby Linero started as a street dog, one of the countless dogs born into the world without a home. Today he is my nephew's dog — and when my nephew and his girlfriend travel, which is often, he stays with me. Over the years he has become, in every way that matters, part of my life.
Where I grew up, dogs did not live inside houses. Every house had a garden, and the dogs lived in the gardens. I loved our neighbor's dog and wished, the way only a child can wish, for one of my own. My mother said no — we were eleven in that house, and there was barely room for the children. I used to say, half joking, that it was the one thing I could not forgive her for.
Life circles back. As a student I made part of my living looking after other people's dogs — Elvis, Bosse, Jimmy, and many more. Each of them left a mark. And then came Toby Linero.
I sometimes joke that there is exactly one living being on this earth who loves me without any boundaries at all, and it is him. My wife loves me. My son loves me. My family and friends love me. But every human love has its limits somewhere. Toby Linero's does not. He loves me regardless of who I am, what I do, or what I say. It is a fantastic thing to feel, and I wish it for everyone.
This whole platform began with him. A street dog who was given a home, and gave back more than anyone thought to measure. Dogs like Toby are why €2 of every profile here goes back to dogs.
